ULI’s Women’s Leadership Initiative (“WLI”) conducted a comprehensive research study to understand the current state of women in leadership roles in the real estate industry. In addition, the study highlighted important actions that organizations can take to promote more women to positions of greater seniority and visibility.

As the real estate industry evolves, there are opportunities to embrace meaningful inclusivity in our leadership ranks. Diversity is a catalyst for success; the inclusion of different perspectives enhances decision making and makes bottom-line business sense.

Please join us for this dynamic and solution-oriented program as we learn more about the WLI research and hear from our panel of local real estate leaders about how the real estate industry can create workplaces that embrace inclusivity where more talented women can advance.

wendy-rowdenWendy Rowden, President of 42nd Street Development Company

Wendy Rowden is the President of 42nd Street Development Corporation (42 SDC, www.42sdc.org), a 40-year-old non-profit that funds and champions arts investments that catalyze neighborhood development.  The organization is the developer and operator of the theaters, restaurants and apartments known as Theatre Row (www.theatrerow.org). 42 SDC also funds Music and the Brain, an innovative music program for grades K to 3 that serves more than 400,000 students, with in schools in New York City, New Orleans, Ferguson, MO and beyond (http://www.musicandthebrain.org).   Ms. Rowden’s mandate is to expand 42 SDC’s reach, which is not limited to 42nd Street.

Ms. Rowden comes to 42 SDC with 30 years of experience in the real estate industry.  Prior to joining 42 SDC, she led Jonathan Rose Companies’ Investments where she was responsible for all aspects of the firm’s investment management business. Prior to Jonathan Rose Companies, Ms. Rowden served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of The Rockefeller Group.

Ms. Rowden is an active member of the Urban Land Institute (Trustee, Global Chair of the Women’s Leadership Initiative and member of the Global Awards Jury). She is also an adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School, where she teaches Real Estate Development.

Ms. Rowden is a past president of WX (Women Executives in Real Estate) and was the 2016 WX Woman of the Year. She is also a former member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Cushman & Wakefield.

Ms. Rowden is the recipient of numerous other industry awards, including Bisnow’s “50 Most Powerful Women in Real Estate,” United Way’s “Women United in Philanthropy Award” and Real Estate Weekly’s Top 100 Women in Real Estate”. She holds degrees from Brown University, University of Michigan and New York University.

Erica Siegel Henning is a Vice President of Lionstone Investments, a Houston-based real estate investment firm that specializes in conceptualizing, researching and executing national investment strategies on behalf of institutional investors and high net worth individuals. As Portfolio Manager for the firm’s two opportunistic funds, she is responsible for portfolio management, strategy and investment performance. Erica also led the development of a number of strategic initiatives for the firm, such as an employee family leave policy, tuition reimbursement program and community service initiative.

Erica has worked in the real estate industry since 2003. Prior to joining Lionstone, she oversaw the management and disposition of a $180 million portfolio of bank-owned real estate assets in the southeast for SunTrust Bank. Prior to SunTrust, Erica held land acquisition and project management roles at homebuilders and developers in both the mid-Atlantic and southeast.

Erica is an active member of ULI (Urban Land Institute); she serves on the national steering committee for the Women’s Leadership Initiative and leads its group in Houston. She’s also a board member of the Houston chapter of CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women). Outside of real estate, Erica is a board member of the Houston chapter of Girls Inc., a national organization dedicated to empowering school-aged girls.

Erica received an MBA degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, as well as undergraduate and graduate degrees from Cornell University.

gregGreg Erwin, Shareholder and Co-Chair of Winstead PC’s Real Estate Development and Investments Practice Group

Greg Erwin serves as co-chair of Winstead’s Real Estate Development & Investments Practice Group. With more than 30 years of experience as a real estate practitioner, Greg handles sophisticated real estate deals for clients such as New York Stock Exchange REITs, privately held development firms and wealthy individuals. Grounded with a sound analytical background and well-versed in the substantive areas of complex real estate transactions, Greg is known for his ability to get deals done, while always watching out for his clients’ best interests. Applying Winstead’s traditional team approach to real estate deals, he is efficient and effective.

Greg is a frequent lecturer at local, state and national seminars and contributor to legal publications.

sherriSherri W. Schugart, Senior Managing Director and CEO of Core Fund, REIT & BDC Group, President and CEO of Hines US Core Office Fund, Hines REIT, Hines Global Reit, Hines Global REIT II, and HMS Income Fund

Ms. Schugart is the CEO of the Core Fund, REIT & BDC Group and currently serves as the President and CEO of Hines Real Estate Investment Trust, Inc., a public, non-listed REIT which invested primarily in U.S. office; Hines Global REIT, Inc. and Hines Global REIT II, public non-listed REITs which invest in real estate in the U.S. and internationally; Hines U.S. Core Office Fund L.P. a private institutional fund which invested in “core” quality U.S. office properties; and HMS Income Fund, Inc., a public non-listed Business Development Company which invests in debt and equity securities of middle and lower middle market companies. She is a member of the firm’s Executive and Strategy Committees. She has leadership and management responsibilities over a team of professionals directly responsible for business strategy, product development, capital raising, portfolio management, acquisitions, asset management, disposition, investor relations, finance, legal and accounting. She previously served as Chief Operating Officer and prior to that as the Chief Financial Officer of several of these entities. She has been a director of Hines Securities, Inc., Hines’ Registered Broker Dealer, since its inception in 2003 and she has been actively involved in the leadership and management as it pertains to the raising of retail capital for Hines’ non-listed REITs and Business Development Company.

Schugart received a BBA from Southwest Texas State University.
