Research Symposium Delivers New Insights on Gentrification

Gentrification is a growing concern for many urban-core neighborhoods nationwide, including those in the Houston area. Gentrification refers to the movement of higher-income groups into previously low-income areas. The concern stems from the idea that rising demand for housing in gentrifying neighborhoods leads to a decrease in affordability for that housing market, increasing the potential for displacing long-term, low-income residents. ULI Houston Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) kicked off its 2016/2017 programming with a well-attended dinner and dialogue event, featuring Guest Speaker Sue Ansel, CEO of Gables Residential. The Houston-based branch of Urban Land Institute recently contributed to a report by the commercial real estate firm HFF regarding the importance of walkability in regards to commercial real estate. The report highlights how convenient access to public transportation and an improvement in Walk Score can affect key metrics for commercial real estate properties, including property values. Urban Land Institute Hosts 6th Annual Sporting Clay Scholarship Classic

Sport shooting aficionados and spectators gathered Sept. 8 to participate in the 6th Annual Sporting Clay Scholarship Classic hosted by the Urban Land Institute of Houston at the Greater Houston Gun Club. Teams participated first in a course competition and then moved to the team flurry competition. Each flurry team was given 100 clays to target with the winning team shooting the most clays. Mayor Turner Discusses Urban Development at Luncheon

At an August luncheon hosted by the Urban Land Institute of Houston, Mayor Sylvester Turner touched on many topics regarding the development of the Houston urban core and surrounding areas.
