The heart of ULI Houston comes from our quality programs, high-caliber networking opportunities, and initiatives to give back to our communities.
To do this, ULI Houston relies on our members. By having leaders and thinkers from across all sectors of the real estate industry take their membership participate and lead our various committees, we ensure our district council is producing content and opportunities that members expect from Urban Land Institute.
When you or your employee volunteer time to a committee, you create connections with passionate and innovative contemporaries, and put your company name at the forefront of our 850+ members. Whatever your passion, interest or ability, ULI Houston has a place for you!

COMMITTEE OPPORTUNITIES
Executive Committee
- Chair – Creates and acts as steward of the ULI Houston strategic plan. Oversees all District Council activities.
- Finance – Oversees fiscal well-being of ULI Houston, including submission of annual budget.
- Mission Advancement – Ensures that ULI Houston’s activities advance its mission and priorities and seeks special initiatives where ULI Houston can positively affect development in the Houston region.
Committee Represented on Management Committee
- Advisory Board – Convenes real estate and other business and community leaders to support ULI Houston’s goals and mission with guidance on initiatives and other contributions. Attends advisory board meetings as scheduled (usually quarterly).
- Centers & Initiatives – Promotes the work of ULI’s Global Centers and Initiatives at the local level. Attends sub-committee meetings as needed.
- Communications – Strategically promotes ULI Houston priorities and mission through multiple communications channels. Meets monthly, or as needed.
- Membership – Oversees recruitment of new members, retention of current members and quality of membership experience. Meets monthly.
- NEXT – Engages and supports members aged 35-45 by providing them with valuable networking opportunities, leadership opportunities, and professional development programming. Meets as needed.
- Partnership – Builds relationships and raises financial support for ULI Houston. Meets as needed.
- Programs – Creates and implements high quality programs to facilitate education, relationship building and career advancement among ULI Houston members. Meets monthly.
- Public Policy – Advocates ULI Houston’s priorities and mission to multiple stakeholders, including through Technical Assistance Panels and UrbanPlan. Meets as needed.
- Women’s Leadership Initiative – Oversees activities and initiatives to encourage more women in the real industry to become ULI Houston members and assists female ULI Houston members with career advancement and greater involvement in ULI. Meets monthly.
- Young Leaders – Creates and oversees activities and opportunities for young professionals under the age of 35 to develop skills and build relationships that will advance their careers and embrace thoughtful development practices in accordance with ULI Houston’s mission and priorities. Meets monthly.
Event or Initiative Specific Committees (not included on Management Committee)
- Building Industry Leaders – Organizes the program whereby ULI Houston members run a series of classes for participants from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston where they receive a comprehensive and fun introduction to the real estate development process. Meets as needed based on demands of current program.
- Capital Markets – Creates and implements high quality programs and content to facilitate education, relationship building around the topic of Capital Markets. Includes assisting with annual Emerging Trends and Capital Markets events. Meets monthly.
- Development of Distinction Awards – Organizes annual Development of Distinctions Awards event honoring outstanding developments in the Houston region. Meets approximately 8 months out of the year with a late winter/early spring event.
- Governance – Provides guidance and leadership in compliance with ULI policies and practices. Supports the Management Committee as necessary. Succession planning for the primary leadership position(s) in the council. Meets as called by Governance Committee Chair. Members are former chairs of ULI Houston and not application based.
- Housing – Creates and implements high quality programs and content to facilitate education, relationship building around the topic of Housing. Meets monthly.
- Marketplace – Organizes annual Suburban/Urban Marketplace event focusing on latest development trends in suburban/urban communities across Houston region and the United States. FY25 will focus on Suburban Development. Will meet approximately 6 times prior to spring event.
- Sporting Clay Scholarship Classic – Organizes the annual Scholarship Sporting Clay Classic event and raises scholarship funds for chosen university graduate real estate programs. Meets monthly leading up to September event.
- Technical Advisory Services – Convenes ULI Houston members to provide expert, multidisciplinary advice to nonprofit organizations and public-sector entities facing complex land use and development issues in the Houston region. Meets as needed.
- UrbanPlan – Organizes the UrbanPlan program in High Schools, Universities and for Public Officials. Responsible for setting up volunteer training, finding new schools, and fundraising. Meets as needed.
- Urban Resiliency & Sustainability – Creates and implements high quality programs and content to facilitate education, relationship building around the topic of Sustainability and Resiliency in Commercial Real Estate. Meets monthly.
About our selection process
The leadership of each committee reviews all expressions of interest and may contact one or more candidates for additional information based on need, profession and other factors. The leadership of each committee will select new committee members in consultation with district council staff and other member leaders as needed. Membership to a committee can happen throughout the year if existing members step down or a committee is expanded for any reason. Applying for a position as a leader or committee member does not guarantee a spot on a committee. ULI membership is required to serve in any leadership capacity including membership on a committee.
